The Tesla Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) 2024 car — often called the “Highland” refresh in its single-motor configuration — has quietly become one of the most compelling electric vehicles on the market in late 2025. While the dual-motor Performance and AWD versions grab most headlines, the Long Range RWD strikes an almost perfect balance between real-world range, efficiency, performance, and price. This variant returned to the lineup after being absent for several years, and the updates brought by the 2024 refresh make it feel like a completely different car compared to the pre-refresh Model 3.

Price and Positioning
As of December 2025, the 2024/2025 Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD starts at $44,990 in the United States before destination fee and potential incentives. After the $7,500 federal EV tax credit (which this model still qualifies for in most configurations), the effective price can drop below $38,000 — making it one of the cheapest ways to get over 400 miles of EPA-rated range in any new car, electric or not. In Europe and the UK, pricing hovers around £44,990 / €49,990 depending on market-specific taxes.

Battery, Range and Efficiency
The Long Range RWD uses an 82 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack supplied by LG, not CATL as in some other markets. Real-world testing by independent sources such as InsideEVs and Bjørn Nyland has consistently shown 350–390 miles of highway range at legal speeds and moderate temperatures, often beating the official EPA rating of 402 miles (WLTP: up to 436 miles / 702 km). Efficiency typically lands between 3.8–4.2 mi/kWh in mixed driving, which remains class-leading among non-aerodynamic “bricks” like the Mach-E or Ioniq 6.

Charging Performance
Thanks to the refreshed thermal management system and preconditioning logic, the Long Range RWD can now accept up to 250 kW on V3 and V4 Superchargers. A 10–80 % charge takes roughly 25–27 minutes in optimal conditions, adding approximately 200 miles in 15 minutes. Home AC charging (11 kW onboard charger) fills the pack in about 8 hours.

Performance and Driving Experience
Power comes from a rear-mounted permanent-magnet motor producing 286 hp (213 kW) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. 0–60 mph arrives in a very brisk 5.8 seconds (Tesla claims 6.1 s, independent tests are quicker). Top speed is limited to 145 mph (233 km/h). The single-motor layout combined with the stiffer Highland chassis, frequency-selective dampers, and a completely re-tuned suspension delivers what many reviewers now call “the best-riding Model 3 ever made.” It’s quiet, composed, and surprisingly fun on twisty roads despite weighing nearly 3,900 lbs.

Exterior Design Changes
The 2024 refresh brought sharper front fascia with new “split” headlights, removed fog lamps, smoother hood lines, and new 18″ Photon or 19″ Nova wheel designs. Drag coefficient dropped slightly to an excellent 0.219. New colors Ultra Red and Stealth Grey look particularly striking in sunlight.

Interior and Materials
Inside, Tesla finally ditched the wood trim for softer textiles and higher-grade perforated vegan leather. Ambient lighting now wraps 360° around the cabin and can be fully customized. Rear passengers gain an 8-inch touchscreen for climate and entertainment, ventilated front seats are now standard on Long Range models, and acoustic glass all-around makes the cabin eerily quiet — measured at just 64 dB at 70 mph by some testers.

Technology and Infotainment
The 15.4-inch center touchscreen runs the latest UI with blind-spot video feed in the turn signal stalk area, Apple Music native support, better route planner logic, and significantly faster response. The 17-speaker audio system (with dual subwoofers) remains one of the best factory setups under $100,000. Hardware 4 (AI4) computer and new HD cameras are standard, paving the way for future unsupervised FSD updates.

Pros
• Class-leading range and efficiency
• Extremely quiet and refined ride
• Eligible for full $7,500 U.S. federal tax credit
• 250 kW fast-charging capability
• Improved build quality and materials
• Outstanding sound system and new rear screen
• Lower price than Dual Motor Long Range AWD

Cons
• No stalk for turn signals or wiper control (still divisive)
• Slightly less grippy in wet conditions vs AWD models
• Spare parts and service wait times remain a pain point in some regions
• Minimal physical buttons — everything is touchscreen
• Rear seat headroom still tight for 6′+ passengers

Who Should Buy It?
If you live in a temperate climate, mostly drive alone or with one passenger, and want maximum range for minimal money, the 2024 Model 3 Long Range RWD is almost impossible to beat right now. It finally feels like the “$35,000 long-range electric car” Tesla promised back in 2016 — just nine years later and still under $40k after incentives.

In a market flooded with $50k–$60k EVs that barely crack 300 miles, the refreshed Model 3 Long Range RWD stands out as the rational choice that doesn’t force you to compromise on the things that actually matter in daily driving.
