The Tesla Cybertruck Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) 2023 was originally planned as the entry-level variant of the highly anticipated Cybertruck lineup, but as of late 2025, Tesla has delayed its launch until 2026 while prioritizing the higher-margin AWD and Cyberbeast models. Despite the delay, the upcoming RWD version remains one of the most talked-about configurations because of its promised affordability and impressive specs on paper. Below is a detailed overview based on Tesla’s latest official statements and real-world data from the closely related AWD models.

Tesla currently lists the rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck at $60,990 before incentives (as of November 2025), making it roughly $20,000 cheaper than the all-wheel-drive model. After the $7,500 federal EV tax credit (if still available in your state), the effective price can drop below $54,000. First deliveries are now scheduled for early 2026.

The single-motor RWD Cybertruck uses a rear-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing approximately 350–400 horsepower (Tesla has not released exact figures yet). Estimated 0-60 mph time is under 6.5 seconds, which is still quicker than most traditional full-size trucks in base trim. Top speed is electronically limited to around 112 mph.
The RWD model is expected to feature Tesla’s new 4680 structural battery pack with roughly 123 kWh usable capacity — slightly smaller than the AWD’s pack. Official EPA range is projected at 340+ miles (547+ km), with real-world highway range likely landing between 290–320 miles depending on wheels, tires, and load.
Like all Cybertrucks, it supports 800-volt architecture and up to 250 kW DC fast charging on Tesla Superchargers (V4 cabinets). A 15-minute charge can add approximately 140–150 miles of range. Home charging with the Tesla Wall Connector (48A) takes about 9–10 hours from 10–100%.
The angular, exoskeleton-style stainless-steel body is identical across all trims. The RWD version will come standard with 20-inch wheels and all-season tires (35-inch off-road tires remain optional). Towing capacity is rated at 7,500 lbs (down from 11,000 lbs on AWD) and payload is 2,500 lbs. The signature steer-by-wire and rear-wheel steering will be included even on the base model.
Inside, you get the same minimalist cabin as higher trims: a 18.5-inch central touchscreen, 9.4-inch rear touchscreen, perforated vegan leather seats, and a massive glass roof. The RWD retains the 6.5-foot vault with powered tonneau cover and 120V/240V power outlets (up to 11.5 kW total). Five passengers fit comfortably, and the frunk offers an additional 7+ cubic feet.
Standard equipment includes Full Self-Driving (Supervised) hardware, four-corner air suspension with adaptive damping, and the latest Tesla vision-only Autopilot suite. Over-the-air updates will continue adding features — recent examples include adjustable ride height presets and improved off-road crawl mode.
The Cybertruck RWD will be the most practical and affordable way for most buyers to join the electric pickup revolution when it finally arrives. Until then, the AWD version remains the only one you can actually buy and drive today.
